I'm not against cloning, or AI or ET or any of that. In fact, I'm absolutely fascinated with the cloning of the horses that has taken place. Wow. I've been utilizing AI and shipped semen for a few years now. That's convenient and still amazing to me. ET, haven't done any of that yet, but I sure know a lot of people who are against it. Mainly because they feel the rich guys will create more top class horses and the little guys don't have a chance.

As for breeding clones? I don't know what to think about that. I'm against most shortcuts that would replace any logical, educational methods for creating quality horses, yet I'm all for technological advances.

Any thoughts?

I think AI opens some door's to be able to breed to horses in a much broader geographical area. World Wide actually. Which I think is a good thing on one hand, and perhaps a not so good thing on another. Because of this, many feel is one reason the gene pool is tightening so much. More locally or regionally located horses are not being utalized because now you can be in opposite ends of the continent and transportation is not an issue.
As far as embryo transferes go, I think it's a good thing, but I also think a mare should be limited on number of registerable offspring per year. This is another thing that can also lead to the tightening of the gene pool, and it cheapens the foals out of the super mares because now there isnt just one yearling each year.
As far as cloning, I'm against it.
