Tell It Like It Is said...
Impressive himself doesn't qualify for Foundation Registering because he is only 24% foundation.
When most of the Foundation Associations were starting up, it was right at the height of the HYPP scare. Many people still didn't know much about the disease and how to control it. My guess is that the Foundation people simply decided it would be easier to exclude Impressive horses from their registery than try and deal with the mess. They still hadn't come up with the test yet and there is no N/N, N/H or H/H status back then.
Where HERDA came into the picture, these associations were up and running with many members linebreeding Poco Bueno. Again, my guess would be that it was easier to do nothing when it came to HERDA than to alienate a large percentage of Foundation members.
Well, the Foundation registries have had 20 years since they first isolated Impressive's link to HYPP.
They've had at least 5 since the discovery of HERDA, and approximately 2 since they came out with a HERDA test that points the finger at Poco Bueno absolutely.
That's plenty of time to have gotten the Impressive situation ironed out, and to start the ball rolling on HERDA.
In my opinion, any association that is as backwards and hypocritical as most of these foundation registries is NOT something I would want to be a part of.
I prefer registries that at least TRY to understand scientific breakthroughs and embrace them. Just because they focus on 'antique' bloodlines (nothing wrong with that!), does NOT mean they need to use antiquated practices.
A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.
