I think rape is a "human" term but I've seen HIGHLY aggressive stallions mount and manhandle mares who were CLEARLY not receptive. This is why I personally despise pasture breedng.

I loved A.I. I never had any issues with it. My stallion never viewed mares as something he got to jump on. It kept him nice and calm around mares at home and at shows and it kept his family jewels where they belonged.

A friend of mine did decide, even though she does A.I., to try and live cover a mare who was not doing well A.I. WHAT a bad idea. We quickly decided that was not something we wanted to do anymore.

I do think there are stallions who get frustrated enough to go ahead and try to breed a mare who is not receptive. Not sure what you call it if you don't call it rape. She's being bred against her instincts and her "will" so to me that's the definition.
