The only thing dog people can agree on is that one of the largest fights in dogs is what and how you feed :-)

I currently feed Eagle Pack Holistics and will soon be feeding Fromm, Innova, or Wellness. I like to change foods every few months to make sure my dogs get adequate and balanced nutrition in case one food is lacking or overbalanced in something, as well as to change protein sources periodically. They are doing very well on these foods, which I supplement with some raw foods as well. I fed and recommended Canidae for years, but they seem to have made a change within the last year in either their suppliers or the ingredients as I started seeing some things I didn't like when my dogs were on it last time-- larger stools, gassiness, and more stomach upset that could be contributed to 'normal' -- and if a dog throws up 12 hours after eating, I DON'T like seeing undigested kibble that was still in the stomach. That tells me something isn't right, and until a year or so ago, I didn't see that while feeding Canidae. Other long-time Canidae people also noticed a change and have since switched foods. I would feed a raw/prey model diet if I could, but it's not feasible right now where I am.

I worked for a vet for a few years, and they refused to feed or recommend Science Diet. Another area vet gave discounts on medical services to anyone feeding it and buying it from her--she said it caused enough health problems that it kept her in business even with the discounts. She's since lost her license, thank goodness. The majority of allergies and skin/coat/ear infection conditions can be cured or at least prevented by feeding a food that contains quality ingredients and does not contain corn or unidentifiable meat products. Iams and Eukanuba used to be decent, but their quality is very low after starting to be carried by the big discount chains. Anything you can find at Wal-Mart is crap.

Here's a site with a lot of different foods-- the reviews are pretty accurate, although I don't agree 100% with some. At the very least, it may save you time wandering through store after store reading labels since they are available here : http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/
