I reacently attended a nutrition seminar about dog foods and learned a few horrifying facts.
Dog food lables are not regulated! They do not have to list in order of amount, as long as it is in the food they can put the ingredients in any order on the lable.
She also (like Gotland was trying to say) said that we have made our dogs into omnivors (internaly) by feeding them grains, so the switch back to carnivor can take some time.
I personally feed kibble, because I don't have the time to commit to raw (I think using both is too hard on the animals). Also I don't use raw because it is hard to stay sanitary at the dog shows. I was a die hard Nutro fan for years, then they got bought out and my dogs started to shed and loose condition. I switched to the Kirkland Lamb and Rice (costco brand) and then recently switched again to the Nutra Nuggets Lamb and Rice. I have since cut my feed use in half (or more) and my dogs are healthy and more active than before. My dogs ALWAYS have access to raw bones, including the entire lower leg of cow on occation. I have an older rescue that has the teeth of a 2 yr old, and my terrier who came to me with major tarter build up has shiny white teeth now.
The kibble/raw food debate can go on for ever, just try bringing it up at a dog show
Bottom line is find something that works for your pet and stick with it.
Oh and the recomended feeding schedual on the back of the bag is at least 2 times what most dogs need.
