People.. be smart... don't send your mares out for breeding. I have to tell you, I've seen many people's breeding operations. NO ONE is treating your mare like you do. I've seen some crappy stuff done.

My hubby, many years before he was my hubby, sent a lovely spotted draft mare (before they were even heard of) to be bred. She came home dead. Well her halter came home, her body was hauled off from the vet clinic where she died undergoing colic surgery due to the breeders neglect. I say the breeders neglect because this breeder loses animals to colic A LOT.

We did all A.I. even on our own mares. I did NOT accept mares in for breeding. I didn't want the responsibility of anyone's mare on my farm. I would have treated them well, but I just didn't want to take chances.

I'm tellin ya... even at boarding barns... the barn owners smile and nod at your requests and then do as they damn well please anyhow. I know someone right now who just discovered her horse hasn't been getting any of his supplements. She's willing to even pay extra but that wasn't expected. It occurred to her that her supplements were getting used up very fast. I mean WTH is that about??? Is it that hard to drop supplements in the bucket for a PAYING boarder?

I never allowed my mares out for breeding. The semen came to me or the mare was bred in front of me and loaded back up. I don't send my horses out for training either. Glad I can do it myself. I've seen more horrific training situations than I care to even think about. Bottom line is not many people care about your animal the way you do.

I do have one coming in for training. Belongs to my vet so I feel pretty good about it. I'll still worry though.
