Did you know about these two mares?

Chubbys Jackie (1973), by Two Eyed Jack.
Chubby's Jackie (1967), by Lynch's Lightin.

If you were filling in a pedigree on all-breed, would you know which one to pick (since they're only 6 years apart, and apostrophes aren't given on that site)?

Would you trust that someone else (who might not be a pedigree expert) chose the correct mare if the pedigree was already filled in on one of her descendants?

Would you even know there were two mares with the same name if the pedigree on your horse was already filled in there?

What if that mare was the last mare on your horse's papers (and you didn't know her pedigree beyond her name) and you wanted to run the pedigree back some more? Where would you go to find the correct information? AQHA. Or a professional pedigree researcher.

There are people out there who make a living researching and analyzing pedigrees. Sites like that are a nightmare to them. These pedigree experts care about the accuracy of pedigrees, if only for historical preservation. They've told me that sites like all-breed are also hurting their business because people are too cheap to pay for accurate information. These researchers run ads in all the publications trying to earn a decent living providing a much-needed service. That's a real shame they're having a tough time, because I've known many of them for years. I know I've invested hundreds of thousands of dollars and time into research material over the years. I used to research pedigrees for a living. Can't do it anymore because no one cares. They can go get information for free, even if it's flawed.

In my experience, there are many factors to be considered when researching a pedigree, and unless you know what you're doing, you're not going to catch the mistakes. I can find some sort of mistake on nearly every pedigree on that site.
