"That's not what I was asking. I know they're successful in the barrel horse world. I was asking why.
Also, what would make them any more capable of contributing to the breed than the stallions who lead other disciplines? "

To me, it's like trying to make the perfect person that can win in all events. Weight lifting or bodybuilding requires a certain heavy body type. Sprinters require a powerful kind lean body build. While Marathon racers require a even leaner bodybuilder. As every sport requires a different build. It's that way in horses. When you breed for a horse that can do it all, you will have a horse like "A Jack of all trades & a master of none."
Some may be really good at most every event, I just don't feel they will be record setters in the area their body isn't built for.
So how does one breed for the average horse. Because when you ask one horse to do everything good, he can't be built to the extreme in any aspects. As that would interfere with winning other disciplines.
The closest they have come to breeding a horse for every event is the Foundation Quarter Horse. Some like their looks & some don't. But they do get it all done with a decent type of style.
