You are assuming that they are not quality horses. Many people feel that it is the show horses who are mediocre. Different strokes!

I wasn't assuming anything, I was talking about the specific instances I have observed where people breed mediocre-to-fugly horses and use those statements as a defense.

Breeders who use quality stock and end up selling mostly to family and trail horse riders are GOOD breeders...they also know that IF their clients wanted to show (gack, not the dreaded show :rolleyes ) the horses wouldn't be laughed out of the ring.

You're right that not everyone wants to show, just like not everyone wants to rope, or pen, or barrel race...but what everyone SHOULD want is a quality horse. As a family pet OR a competition prospect. And yes, there are probably a lot of Foundation Quarter Horse breeders out there who do just that...it just seems to be a trend on the auction sites and in the Classifieds to find more Foundation Quarter Horse breeders who do real shitty work...and then say that they aren't LOOKING for pretty show prospects (who wants to show anyway) they JUST want good family horses.

A high quality horse from a GOOD Foundation Breeder would make a MUCH BETTER family horse, don't you think? Or are you one of the breeders who depend on poor newbie idiots (yes, like me) to buy your auction fodder?

But you know exactly what I'm talking about cretin, you've been skulking around long enough.
