Your dream of winning a ribbon at an "A" show really isn't that out of reach. It's perfectly attainable. You would definitely need to start with local shows. If he's winning / doing really well there, then there shouldn't be a problem with him placing at the "A" shows. Frayser rode a fugly Draft-X in the Children's and was pinned 9th & 7th at Lexington in a class of beautiful rounds.

It -can- be done! But don't go to one show, not place and give up. Maybe that day there would ten excellent perfect rounds on a horses that were 10s in movement and jumping. Maybe the judge just didn't like a Fjord. There will be a judge who will reward a consistent, good jumping horse. How do I know? My trainer's one of them.
