We bring the 2 barn cats in at night (with the help of smelly canned cat food). Otherwise, the coyotes and Great Horned Owls make short work of them. Since we began this practice 13 years ago I haven't lost a single cat to predators (knock wood). In fact, this is the first time in my life I've had cats live to old age. I had no idea the number of "old cat problems" they could develop, because as a kid and young adult they never made it past 5. Cancer, hyperthyroidism, bad hearts, dental problems. They're almost as expensive as the horses now!
