My chestnut thoroughbred mare--- well, the saying is "Beware the Chestnut Thoroughbred Mare"-- and in many ways, its quite true. She is a gorgeous mare, prettiest face you'll see. But she is quite picky about who she likes. Most things will make her mad. For instance, you don't talk to her in a baby voice (or just high pitched), because that just pisses her off. Ears pinned, wrinkles her nose. So anyways, she only likes a couple people, me, my barn manager.. and thats about it. She will let other people ride her, but on the ground, she'll make faces.

So I persuaded my boyfriend to come with me to get my mare and then trailer her to my work so I could ride her in games. He is completely non-horsey. In fact, he grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and his experience about horses has been betting on them at Belmont. He is generally quiet, and isn't very intiminating.

He met Fiona, and I was shocked when she didn't threaten to bite him. Infact, she actually seemed to like him. When we arrived at my work, I even asked him to hold her, and he surprised me when he obliged and held her. She stood perfectly and didn't do anything with him. I was surprised that she liked him. Needless to say, he might be a keeper. If my cranky mare can like him, that's quite good.

Now he wants to learn to ride so we can go on trail rides...
