Gah, what a lack of respect.

Most people wouldn't think to insult your career choice if you had picked something else... could you imagine laughing at someone because they're going to university? Or starting an entry level job, planning to work their way up? Or getting some sort of trade qualifications?

You just wouldn't talk badly about what someone is doing with their life (not to their face, anyways).

But as soon as the army or the government is mentioned, all of a sudden everyone is an expert and everyone feels like they have the right to comment on your decisions.

It doesn't bother me that they don't like the military as much as it bothers me that they don't have any kind of basic respect for a fellow human trying to work hard to make a life for themself.
