I'm an absolute fan of Fjords, trust me
However, I found them too short and chunky for my liking. I also enjoy TBs but found a lot of the time they can be too "hot". So I guess I lucked out to get the best combination of both? Movement of TB but the mind of a Fjord, can't complain!
And he can definately hold his head and come into the bit quite comfortably despite his neck, so I have no worries for that! However he's still green to coming into the bit/in frame as it's been all fun so far but as he's hit 4 it's time to get into some real work. I'm REALLY hoping to show him in a 2' class in July but I'll see how that goes. He's done a course of 1' verticals no problem, and has done 2' singles BUT oxers still seem to blow his mind so I'm keeping patient with that!
I cannot even express how much I would
love
to show with the big boys, on my "horrible" grade mutt! It'd definately remind me of an underdog story and I'm going to try my best, as well as Symbah's, to succeed as far as we can go and show those other underdogs that you don't need an expensive WB to win! Wishful thinking perhaps, but I'm quite happy being in la-la land!
skipawaygrey - yep, you're right about those jumps.
Actually, the first jumping picture was his first time ever going over a vertical of any kind (besides freejumping) so he had to figure himself out and yes, did take off a bit late. But he loved it!
Second jumping photo, definately an early take-off. But that was of my request. We had approached it on the wrong lead and had to quickly do a simple lead change however that messed up our striding so I had to decide to get him to take a long spot, or throw in an extra stride and risk hitting the jump. I obviously chose the longspot as at the distance he would likely take down the poles. Good thing about that scenerio, is the fact that he jumped immediately when I asked - and trusted me completely! My position sure needs help though! :/
I like spicing things up for him during rides, keeps him occupied and sharp - instead of bored. Because there's nothing more destructive than a bored Symbah!
I'd love some more critiques on his conformation as well, as detailed as possible because I'm still figuring out the nitty gritty of conformation (ie. closed/open shoulder, hip angle, what they mean, etc. etc.)
What
doesn't
kill you; is
sure
to leave a
horrible
scar.
Success
is not final,
failure
is not fatal: it is the
courage
to continue that counts.
