More on topic, I will say one thing about the squeeze on a runaway. Regarding a true bolter, and having ridden and once been hurt by one, I'm not so sure it would work and hope to never (again) have the opportunity to find out. However, the horse I'm currently working with is very forward, especially when he's doing something exciting like jumping. He'll go faster, and faster, especially if I just sit there and never touch him with my leg except to cue leads. On the other hand, if I take a hold of him with my upper leg, he checks immediately, collects, and slows down.
