I am very sorry you are hurt so seriously and hope all turn out well for you. Keeping that in mind, in one way it is good that you are thinking about this horse's future (and if it will coincide with your own) but perhaps you should not make a firm decision one way or the other until a few months have passed. I know right now, so soon after the accident that it seems you will never want to ride anything at all, certainly not HIM but believe me that mindset might well pass after you have healed. I have also had months (years) in between one ride and the next and during that time also found myself running hot and cold on ever riding again. How long have you had this horse? Has he injured you in the past? You know him best of anyone in his life right now- do you think him having the coming months off will perhaps work in your favor or do you think it will make him worse? What another poster said above about her Arab becoming sort of sane at age 6 keeps sticking in my mind.

Anyway, I feel so badly for you but please don't make a decision too quickly (especially on those happy pills! On other hand if everyone around you is saying he is the next Demon Seed, perhaps it is time for a change. Hmmmmm I honestly do not envy you this quandary. Peace and speed to your healing bones however. . .
