The whole big deal over the Obamas getting a dog kinda pissed me off--why would you get a dog if your daughter is allergic to them? Is Obama really that desperate for public approval that he couldn't have gotten a cat, or a ferret, or a snake, or hell, a pony? I know the psychological reasoning behind having a dog in the White House (though I've never based trusting a person on whether or not they had a dog), but putting your daughter's health on second-list just to follow that idea seems absurd.
I'm also confused as to why the Obamas weren't attacked about purchasing a pedigreed/purebred dog as Biden was; was there some other issue with the German Shep breeder or something?

Why do most liberal political arguments boil down to someone shoving their pointy little nose in my face and saying "Well, you see, we've decided that personal responsibility, self-reliance, and independent thinking are old-fashioned and very passe'--not to mention dangerous and problematic!--so we insist you desist on all of the above at once!"
