My brother was ADHD, dyslexic, and tested out above genius level. Meds didn't help either- sure he was more subdued in class, but living with a speed junkie is no fun- and he was taken off them for ALL of our safety and sake.

Turns out that increasing his calcium intake and a new way of teaching him to read worked better than the meds did.

My personal opinion is: drugs are not a solution, they are a quick fix and should only be used for medical reasons. A behavior/training issue is not a medical reason- it just means the rider is overhorsed and needs to take a new tactic for training.

However- this is the instant gratification world. Which means there are people who will go out and risk their lives on drugged horses- the equine equivalent of a car with brake and sterring problems- in order to get a little rush. It's one of the reasons I don't put any weight on show records or ribbons, because in the end- I'd rather have a well-trained, no-fame horse in my barn than a horse with all sorts of points and ribbons- who had to be drugged to get into the ring.
