I thought this was a very good artical on Ace.

"There are four big sedatives that a vet uses for average horses: Ace, Dormosedan, Torbogeisic, and Rompun. Ketamine can be used also but that is usually just for sedation prior to surgery. Of those drugs, Ace is the only one that is not a controlled substance. The other drugs require that the vet record how much was given and to whom.

Acepromazine, medetomidine (aka Dormosedan) and xylazine (aka rompun) Are NOT controlled substances in the US. image Just the ketamine. A vet can hand out ace, domitor/dormosedan and rompun to anyone who asks

Where did you get your info? As laws change all the time. My resources may be out dated. As I read where they are class II controlled substances here in the United States. Yes they can be handed out but by law the vet has to log who & where they went to. image
