Buttkissing! On a lot of forums (and chat rooms, for that matter), every single post the mods or owners make is followed by a deluge of posts amounting to, "me too! Yeah, what he/she said!" And god forbid anyone disagree with a moderator post, it's like a one-way ticket to instant pariah status, assuming you don't get banned for it. The only thing worse than the buttkissers are those mods who actively try to surround themselves with them.
I used to post on a tomato grower's forum where the owner actually started sending a toadie into the forum's IRC channel to make sure nobody was disagreeing with him when he wasn't there, and then banning people from the forum and deleting any reference to those people in forum posts. He even added their names to the profanity filter! I was banned for creating the IRC channel (with his blessing) and then not banning people from it for speaking their minds. The ban was later lifted when I pointed out that he'd given me his permission for the channel, in public, in writing, and had never told me to close it when he changed his mind about it, he just expected me to magically know. But I never went back anyway, I mean seriously, who wants to hang out in a place like that?
