My new mare appears to work well in a big ol' pacifier loose ring snaffle and we decided to keep her in it for jumping (previous owner ran her in a double twisted wire *cringe*). My trainer highly suggested the guards because she witnessed a loose ring get pulled through a horse's mouth during a jump off. Not only did it pinch, but it cut the side of the mouth and tongue.

How did you get them off? I honestly don't know how I will be able to get them off, barring cutting. So here's hoping they work!

Off seemed to be much easier. But you could have larger rings than I did too. It's a little late now....but they make slip on ones that latch on now.

Loose ring pulled through the mouth?? That's definitely a "don't believe it till I see it" kind of event. Freaky. But they definitely can't hurt to have on either way. Unless they cause sweat around the lips and chaffing, which I have seen.
