KG349: My husband has a mild TBI. He was hurt in a sporting accident (non-horse-related). I know first-hand how hard it can be, recovering and rebuilding one's life. There's a lot of frustration and anger that goes along with it. The good news, though, is that the war in Iraq has really jump-started TBI research since that's one of the main injuries our soldiers are suffering from when hurt in the line of duty. (God, not that our soldiers getting hurt is actually "good" news.) It's my hope that in the next 10 years the condition will be better understood and new treatment protocols will be available for those people who have already been hurt. My husband does a lot of puzzles--sudoku, crosswords, etc.--to work on keeping his brain sharp. He still has a memory like Swiss cheese, but I can tell when he hasn't been sharpening. Ha ha.
