Trimming a cat's claws is pretty easy. My cat likes to claw doorjams, but as long as her nails are trimmed it doesn't do any damage at all. Keeping a cat tree in the house helps, too; as soon as I bought the thing she showed a definite preference for it, and rarely bothers the doors anymore. Considering all of the problems declawing can cause, I'd only consider it if it were a medical necessity, myself.
