British here. We don't do 'indoor' cats (most cat owners have flaps so cats can come and go as they please) and declawing is illegal for good reason, as it is in the majority of developed countries. I think it's a horrible practice.
I understand the (maybe percieved, maybe real - I don't know) need to keep cats indoors in the US, but I don't think it ever justifies declawing. Like others have said, if you don't want to deal with claws, don't get a cat.
