They do heal, you know... if it goes wrong and doesn't heal properly, then that's just the same as any surgery going wrong. Then you have some decisions to make about whether it can be fixed and quality of life.

But if it doesn't go wrong, the cat isn't living in pain. Unless the declawed cats I have met are freaks of nature with super healing powers, or something. Which would be kind of neat.
