my 'process' takes forever. I start with a bucket of warm water and a sponge and wipe down all my tack untill I stop pulling up dirt. (Sponge is damp, not wet). At that point, I'll use horsemen's 1-step and if the tack is really really dry, I'll put as much of that in as the leather will hold. Once it 'dries' I'll go over it with a coat of some 'waxy' product. It tends to hold moisture in/keep stuff out better than the non glycerin products. For that, I use the madcow soap and just buffbuffbuff the leather.
My saddle is always happy when I do it.

If you want, you can use oil between the horsemen's 1-step & glycerin soap but I hate oil. It never seems to work well for me. I just use a tack conditioner instead.
