My ex bf insisted that it was cruel to spay his cat because he'd be "depriving her of her right to reproduce". Exact words. I told him yes, that was the point. Where in that is it confusing? He also let his cats outside and one got hit by a car. He was devistated, but I couldn't express concern...I told him it'd happen.
My cat is dumb. I love him. I found him under a bush in the rain as a kitten and he had everything wrong with him. I let him explore the outside for a while (as an adult) in Georgia until I had to shoot a coyote for trying to eat my dog. I then brought him inside and he's been strictly an inside cat ever since. Does he want to go outside? Sure. But I feel its the same as letting your dog run around for his/her "freedom". Its irresponsible and you can only blame yourself when the animal meets an untimely death. Does this mean I'm against barn cats? Nope. They have a job and its to patrol the barn. However, my house cat has a job too, and its to be a companion animal for me. If I have to keep him inside to keep him safe, I'll do it. I'd never forgive myself if he was eaten by an animal or hit by a car because my only step to keep him safe was to cross my fingers.
Besides... he'd never survive for long. He's...well, dumb.
