I agree cassie...I am normally really good at listening- but no one else including a very experienced trainer that I ride with, saw the pain- we all saw that she was being disobedient. I am in a way glad this happened, it is a good reminder to trust your instincts and not just push through all the time.

Most of the time a horse being "disobedient" is the only way they can try and say that something's wrong. Always watch what the disobedience comes with... if it's accompanied by a tight lip, anxious eyes, and a tense overall feel and is often expressed in either the same way or the same situation.. that's "disobedience" that can mean something's wrong.

This mare's been in pain for so long that she's a little unwired. It's probably not exactly occurred to her that she feels better. She's going to express the same behavior for a while. Your idea of just basically restarting her and allowing her to mentally rewire is a great idea.
And from what you've said.. this mare has been pushed thru, and has worked for you, while in quite a bit of pain. She's a tough broad, you get her right and get her body and head straight.... she's going to be one helluva a dame.

Eta: For some odd reason.. whenever I'm talking about TB mares.. I call them broads and dames.. etc. It's only TB's. I think I may be a little unwired.
