Ive only had this horse for a year, I'm still tweaking her tack as we learn about each other.

See, I didn't know that about them usually being for show. I just heard that its easier for the horse to be responsive while neck reining because they can feel the reins on their necks better.

Ive tried two pairs of nylon reins and two pairs of leather reins and I'm not really happy with any of them.

I usually ride with gloves, so I didn't think the scratchiness would bother me.

Teach her to neck rein. Getting horsehair reins (or any type of rein) is not going to "help" her learn. Teach her to neck rein and it won't matter what you put against her neck, she'll move away from it no matter what touch her with.

I already taught her to neck rein.
It does matter what kind of reins are used. She literally can't feel soft braided nylon, but goes beautifully in heavy leather reins. I tried heavy cotton reins too, which actually worked alright but they would get gunked up something nasty after just one ride. no thanks!

So, I want to use something soft like nylon but something she can actually feel on her neck and horsehair seemed like an obvious answer.
