Gosh, she's adorable Foxjumper.
I'm not trying to keep your hopes up, but is it possible that HE is having depression from the new change? I don't know what it's called in men, but in women it's Post Partum depression, and if you're feeling stressed - not showering daily/shaving, not confident in being a mom at the start, raging hormones trying to balance out after baby is born.. maybe he's having a similar reaction too... Such as stressing himself out over things - like the babysitters smoking?
On that issue I would ask him how he'd feel if you could keep them, but have them each sign something saying they won't smoke in the same room as your baby, will only do it outdoors, etc and take steps to prevent second hand smoke to your child? Some compromise, or have HIM find new babysitters that you okay.
Maybe ask him to voice all his concerns, and that you'll make every attempt not to take them personally, because maybe he feels you could be disinterested or might take things the wrong way? I don't know your relationship, none of us does, but is there a chance he could be holding onto something that's basically turning him away from you because he feels he can't voice it to you for some reason?
Whatever you do, you have to be 100% ok with it in the long run. Would you be able to do a trial separation, and you just up and leave and stay with family nearby? Then it's still close enough that you don't have to sell your horse, but you get the idea of being on your own again?
Whoever said the stuff about fixing yourself up, getting confident... I'd do this. Regardless. Don't do it to make him fall in love with you again, do it because it WILL make YOU feel good. Make you happy to look at yourself in the mirror and go "dayum girl, you're sexy!" You'll have to ask EVA for confirmation, but I always was told that pregnancy and shortly after that your hair and skin can look SUPER healthy and have an amazing glow - if this is true, you won't need to work hard at looking sexy. Just add some hair varnish, make it pretty, some make up, showers/baths each day, shave the legs, etc. It's not for him.
