I must say though, the synthetic tack thing cuts both ways. If you show up to an endurance ride or competitive trail ride decked out in all leather tack, most likely YOU will be the one judged as less knowledgeable and less experienced.

Absolutely agree. I have a couple of biothane headstalls and am guilty of having used a wintec dressage saddle on the trails - anything you can just hose off after a day of the horse sweating or riding in the river is awesome. Water and sweat sure are heck on leather. Use the tack that works best for the situation.
