Oh yes I have an insane thoroughbred! Mmmhmmm. We lived out of town so asked a friend to look at and purchase a 14hh experienced pony club mount for me, a 9yo beginner. The 'pony' turned up...and it was 16hh and had raced the week before! Guess what? Still got him Wild crazy thing that he was...I took him on a 20km ride a few weeks after we'd got him, I'd never even cantered before in my life at that stage - very novice rider haha. But oh yes, all thoroughbreds are crazy and if you can ride an ex-racehorse you are the bestest rider in the whole wide world!

I also look down on people/horses who can't ride outside of the ring or go on trails. image They say they prefer not to or they have no need to, but nine times out of ten they are afraid. I really have little confidence in a rider who is ring-bound.

Agree lol or they say "well my horse just doesn't like it" yeah ok.
Or boring...WTH. You make it what you want. I used to ride trails like a x/c course. I agree the excuses are limitless.

Agreed, agreed and agreed lol...my personal experience is that people are too chicken to ride out, or one - they didn't want their horse to get fit because then it would be crazy.

And just to comment on some of the OP posts, which I forgot to earlier....

If someone makes a comment regarding "What do you need a 16hh+ horse for?" or "16hh+ horse - overcompensating" I assume the person speaking is western, rather than english.
