I have a gelding who wasn't handled much as a youngster. He isn't great for worming/shots/feet/etc. I figured he would be the same for the dentist. However, I was referred to an equine dentist by another horse owner here in town. She said he worked magic with one of her horses who previously had to be sedated for any work on his teeth. She was right - what he did with my horse was almost magic - after some minor scuffling (from my horse) and some calm handling from the dentist, my horse quickly settled down and the job was done with no issues. I watched the whole thing and was floored at how well it went. The dentist wasn't rough at all - just firm and to the point. I would gladly refer him to anybody located in CT or eastern NY. I know he also travels to TN.

So, go by referral and hopefully you'll find a good equine dentist like I did. It makes all the difference!
