I have had one horses barefoot for two years the other for just a month, but just started getting them trimmed by a "barefoot" style guy, rather than the regular farrier (moved barns, thus the change). They do fine barefoot, even the mare with bad feet (soft, prone to cracks)(she's the one who's been barefoot two years). I use boots at least on the front if in rocky or gravelly terrain but most of our trails are on tractor roads, so just dirt or grass. I can't see getting religious about it. I'd put shoes on if it seemed useful, but so far so good without.

Besides, shoes were $180+ per horse, trims are $40 per horse, so that's nice.
