You know, I honestly think some of the problems stem from these studs not being let "be horses". I been investigating studs a bit, both in prep for 09 season and for having my own someday, and spoke with a man in TX with a race-bred QH stud, who was advertised as being pasture-bred only (that was the reason I called, out of curiosity). He said that his stallion was refusing to breed, and they were at wit's end--then someone suggested putting him out with a little band of well-mannered, sweet mares, and seeing if that helped. It did, and he's back in business. The man said they could pull him out and AI him, but had to have one of his harem to tease with.
I think these studs get to be like rich tweaky guys--they develop strange habits just because they can. And they live such an artificial life, as well.
