One of my horses let himslef out the gate one night..at like 3:00 in the morning. I had 2 of my horses pastured about 2 blocks down from me. The third one I still had at home woke me up whinnying and going crazy. That was so unlike her, so I got out of bed in my T-shirt and bare feet (it was summer) to wander out to her field on my property to see what was wrong. She seemed fine, but I just had a bad feeling, so I kept walking over to the field I had the others in. Radar had let himself out of the pasture gate, walked down the lane, and opened the neighbours gate and let himself into his organic vegetable farm. My other horse was standing at the open gate in his field calling for his buddy Radar...like he just knew he'd be in deep trouble if he left So I snuck in (still barefooted and no halter, rope anything) and desperately tried to herd Radar back out before the owner woke up and discovered us in there. (He'd made it very clear before that he was concerned my horses might one day somehow get in) I managed to get Radar out fairly quickly, but not before I went for an accidental swim in the new pond the neighbour had dug Locked everyone back up and spent the rest of the night waiting for dawn so I could see the damage done. Luckily it was relatively minor in the end, no missing carrots or the like But after that my other two horses were the 'good' kids for letting me know what bad little Radar was up to.
