Just like so many things, the loonies inhabit the extremes, and the "best" ways lie somewhere in the middle.

There certainly are horses and disciplines and times when shoes are needed and helpful. There are also horses and disciplines and times when shoes aren't necessary and may, in fact, do more harm than good. It's up to the owner to have the wits and reason to figure out which are which.

Very few things are black and white (well, except how I feel about Big Lick horses and their owners/trainers, but we don't need to go there again) and most of the time there's a guy on each end of the extreme, selling the idea that his way is best - because rational thought and critical thinking is HARD...it's much easier to say "SHOEING IS BAD" or "ALL HORSES MUST BE SHOD" than to actually sit and consider why each horse and situation may be different.
