This headgear is very similar to the sidepull I use, there are performance trainers that are having success with this type of sidepull bridle starting them in it & using it on the a finished horse. It's the one in the bottom middle pic. The others (sidepulls) appear to draw the curb tighter when direct reining, mine does not & neither does number CPP27 appear to either. It appears to have a steel or chain nose piece, but I'm sure you could request a rope noseband instead.

ETA: These sidepulls act more like a pulley curb, even # COO27, if you could stabilize the curb to not draw tight or move at all, it would then work in the same manor as the one I have. But you may like the way these models work better.
