Choke can be pretty nasty and can lead to a horse's death. But what could you do that you didn't do? The horse's owner was notified (spouse counts). The thing you should worry about is can they in any way blame you for the choke? Who is in charge of feeding Storm? Was he only fed his normal feed? If you fed him something he's not used to eating, they could blame you. Otherwise, it is up to the owner or barn owner to take care of the horse. Anything you do could only get you into trouble.

Thank you Susan, Zuk and NG.

Susan, my friend and Storm's owner have a standing agreement where they bring each others' horses in from the pasture to feed and groom whenever they want. The horse was fed his normal feed, so no, we didn't feed the horse without permission or anything that he wasn't used to. I maybe see Storm once a year or so, when I visit my friend's retired horse.

NG and Zuk, thank you - I will tell the owner and my friend to perhaps look into soaking the pellets first
