<< has chokers.

Once the blockage is past, as long as the horse doesn't have access to hay cubes or grain, you're probably fine - until the next feeding.

The way I massage the throat is to put one arm over the neck and one arm under and use my entire forearm to slide down the throat.

The shallow breathing wasn't from the choke directly. The horse may have been scared. Justin gets panicky when he chokes, Comet lays down to die, and Cisco just stands there.

Things I've done to prevent choke:
water down pellets and/or alfalfa cubes. Water down the alfalfa cubes a LOT, because I've had them cause choke even wet down.
feed a non-pelleted feed
feed pelleted feed in very small amounts (currently in place, because I can't keep sweet feed in the summer and the boys only get about 1/2 a small coffee can - 1/2 quart, and Comet gets a handful)

It's very likely that I did NOT read all the comments before replying. Deal with it.
