I agree with Sonnet, there's just no substitute for a good massage therapist, especially when coming off an injury (which will cause all sorts of weird compensations that mess up your body). One of the suggestions mine gave which I find helpful before riding is to pull my leg up to my chest, knee bent, hold 5 seconds, then holding my ankle open the leg so my knee is out to the side of my body, then gently bring it down and in so my thigh is next to the other one, foot up at my butt. That takes the hip through most of its range of motion and gives a gentle stretch.
I agree with you both. After I finished my last bout of PT, I had to go BACK, because I'd been compensating for so long for pain in my knee that I'd actually screwed up my hip really badly. It's so unfair that after all that surgery, my hip seems to be what's giving me the worst problems! It feels *wrong* when I'm riding so forward, and it's messing me all up.

There's actually a massage therapy school in my city, maybe I'll check out if they do "training massages" to help their students learn. It's bound to be cheaper! Kind of like getting your hair cut at a salon school.

Thank you much for that stretch, I'm going to try it today before riding. That sounds like it will hit exactly the spot that I need help with.
