I'm very familiar with PCOS...most doctors do not know crap about it, and barely understand the mechanism that causes it. Birth control does not always help. You'd have more luck going on Glucophage than anything else. There are some awesome books about PCOS out there. My best friend has it and was in a study about a med for it. She found a fabulous doctor locally (one from the study actually) and was able to have kids (can cause infertility)...she went through years of doctors not knowing what it was, telling her to lose weight and having nothing work. There is also a similar condition that affects your adrenal glands and the only way to tell is if you have treatment for PCOS and your testosterone leve remains high. Being familiar with both is a benefit, in that you can know whats causing the symptoms. I recommend finding someone in your area who is familiar with treating PCOS and not just a doctor who has read about it. Dieting has nothing to do with it, your body and your insulin levels are being interfered with because your hormone levels are not correct. Because you are producing massive amounts of estrogen your body is producing massive amounts of testosterone to attempt to balance your system, which is why you get the abnormal hair growth etc...
