The husband of the couple that lived in my parents' house before them committed suicide. I never got a definitive answer on whether he did it in the old barn that has since burned down (actually it did as my parents were in the process of buying the place), or in my parents' bedroom. His name was Clarence. Apparently knives and scissors tend to get misplaced into very odd places, or disappear for very long stretches of time and then show up again. I lived in that house for 20 years and never noticed anything with the knives and scissors, but I asked mom a little more seriously about it one time and she swears on it. We always blame weird stuff that happens on Clarence (whether or not it really is a 'ghostly' thing).
Mom said one day she saw in the far pasture this white horse running in slow-motion, all flowy and dream-like, and then it was gone. Mom seems to be more of a 'sensitive' type person, so I'm inclined to believe she's not making this stuff up. She also claims to hear certain thoughts that people think. I've seen enough instances of it that I think she can, and as someone else said, it's creepy that you aren't safe with your own thoughts.
I've had dreams that seem to come true. Maybe not immediately, but eventually. One dream I can remember specifically is one I had about the river we live near. I had a dream once that all the trees were ripped down and laying in piles and water was waterfall-ing (technical term there LOL) over the piles. Some time later a crew was hired to take down all the trees on a certain stretch of the river right by us and bulldoze out the sandbars and all that. So, the trees were down and laying in piles, but no water going over them. Weird. I have had LOTS of deja-vu experiences, and some very very strong.
Our house is only about 15 years old, but it sits on an 'old' property. The previous house here was apparently an old house built around a log cabin. The previous owners tore that down and brought in the new house (modular home, but not a double-wide, it's a cape cod style). There was also a ~150 year old barn on the property that we tore down and built new over the old site. Anyway, the house has always had way more creaking and noisiness than a relatively new house should, and as far as I know no tragic happenings occurred in it. Mostly happening in the upstairs, but some downstairs too. I have smelled strong smells of perfume (my perfume, but there was no reason that there should have been any air flow bringing it over to the bed) for a few breaths and then it goes away, and also a strong 'band-aid' smell (latex-like smell). I was sleeping in the front room, and the front door was open, and I woke up to a very strong smoke smell. My husband had burned brush and trash at the bottom of the hill in front of the front door that night, but I got up and sniffed at the screen door and didn't smell anything. I shut the front door, layed back down, and smelled it again for a few breaths and then it went away. My husband was sleeping upstairs for a while, and he swears to have seen things (a bright spot in the room, obstructed light from the computers in the adjoining room) and heard things (lots of noises coming from the stair landing hallway area, a sound like from a hand-head video game), and felt things (cold breeze over him accompanied by a very bad smell and an inability to breathe for about 5 seconds). The dog has also stared at that room and barked and growled before, although I haven't seen it much. Hubby is the uber-skeptic on this stuff, but yet he's the one most of the stuff has happened to.
Oh, and the smoke detectors have gone off at random times too, with no smoke around. Once at 3am for no apparent reason. One time in the mid-morning, I was just tidying up some things and they went off. All of them. They're wired into the house so there's not even a battery that we can yank out to shut them up. They went quiet and then went off again. I yelled to the house "ok guys, knock it off!" when they went quiet again. The alarms sounded again and I said "I said knock it off!!" and they went quiet again and stayed that way. Hubby claims he's woken up to see the stereo on in the bedroom (no sound, just the display is on). We never use the thing, although it is plugged in.
We were in Tucson, AZ, visiting his uncle and his wife, and the bed we slept on was my husband's grandmother's (she passed in '96 I think). The first morning he asked me if I smelled any perfume when we woke up. I said maybe, vaguely, not enough to make a true impression on me. He said he smelled his grandmother's perfume, and she hadn't ever been there. We sniffed around the room and even the bed, and there was NOTHING that smelled like any perfume, much less hers. He still won't believe that maybe his grandma was checking in on him.
I'm not sure if I dreamed this or actually woke up, but what seemed to me to be a black man in a suit was standing right next to me in bed. Only one time. Freaked me out.
One time at work I was standing with some folks on a water break (like a smoke break, but to the water/ice machine instead), and I had the absolute strongest feeling that someone was RIGHT behind me. I whipped my head around several times and moved around a little and nothing/no one was there, and the feeling was still there. Eventually it went away, but whew, freaky.
I've never had anything really definitive happen that made me say without a doubt I believe, but there's enough 'stuff' around that I certainly don't doubt the existence of spirits or energy.
Karen
