OK take two. Hopefully yuku doesn't screw me over again this time.
When I was a baby, my parents lived in a very small house south of the town where we live now. It was their "starter" home since my dad already owned it when he was single and then my mom just moved in with him when they were married. This house had a resident ghost they named "Rosie," because everytime she'd come around, it smelled sickly sweet, like a funeral parlor filled with roses.
For the most part, she was a friendly ghost. The best story my parents told me was about an opal ring my father gave my mom when they were dating. She had whacked her hand against something while wearing it, and since the opal is a very soft stone, it broke. Mom put it back in its box and wrapped it up, then was storing it in the attic of that little house. One night, they had some friends over for dinner and the ring came up in conversation. Mom decided to head up and grab it to show to the guests. When she unwrapped it and opened the box, the ring looked like the day it was purchased; the stone had been somehow restored/replaced. To this day, my father vehemently denies having it repaired.
Things started getting less friendly, though, when my parents decided to move out. The house was just too small for their growing family (my sister was going on 3 and I was about 18 mos by the time they moved out), so they went looking for a new, larger home (same one my parents live in today). When they started packing, strange things began happening around the house. The two stories I recall most vividly are:
-My mother was home alone with my sister and I one day, as my dad worked day shift Mon-Sat + extensive overtime. She was upstairs putting Sara and me down for a nap, when she heard a lot of noise down in the kitchen. When she went downstairs to see what was going on, she found the kitchen in a state of disaster. Boxes of Jell-o and pudding mix that she kept on a shelf (too high for even my dad to reach without a stepstool) had been torn open with the powder strewn all over the kitchen. There was no sign of anyone having come in the house. Even if someone had - why just do that and leave?
-My grandparents (mom's parents) had come to meet my parents and go out to dinner one night, celebrating the purchase of the new house. My grandma smelled Rosie's presence before they left for dinner, but didn't think much of it, as she knew about her history at the house. When everyone returned from dinner, they walked in to find a red liquid splattered randomly on objects throughout the living room. A lampshade was completely ruined, upholstery stained, and splatters on a painting of running horses. My mom wiped the liquid off the painting, and after a few minutes, the liquid on the rag she used dried and turned brown - just like blood does when exposed to air. To this day, my parents still have that painting hanging in the living room. It still has a stain on it from that night. I'll have to take a photo to show everyone when I get a chance.
I want to go back to the house one of these days and see it. My sister is huge into ghost-hunting and I bet it'd be fun to go take some photos at night with the lights out, and try to record some EVPs. Of course, that would require the permission of the current owners
