The best way to cure that is to have it happen accidentally. Go out of a trail ride and let the canter happen up a hill, they will stop at the top. Or trot over a little tiny jump (if you jump) and when they land in the canter let them keep it. Sometimes the best way to get over your fear is to take your decision making out of it. Instead of worrying over what will happen if you canter, let it happen. A lunge lesson could be really great or it could be horrible as sometimes it is harder to canter in a smaller circle, especially if you are nervous about it.
