Horses survive colic but they dont typically come out of an impaction surgery very well. The horse will be in pain and it may not survive. Weigh your options. Do you have $2000.00 sitting around waiting for this surgery? Do you really want your horse to go through that agony? This surgery is not a simple fix.

There are a few stories in this thread that are not quite right, but PDJ and Dainty are right on the money. Figure out what is causing the colic. SOMETHING you (or the person caring for it) are doing is causing it. Check your hay, check the times the horse is being fed, check the amount of time it spends in the stall, check that it isnt ingesting sand with every meal, etc. Your horse cannot change it's problem if you dont change first.
