Oh completely different. As I mentioned, my sister's husband is Army. He came back last fall from Iraq and he'll leave this spring for Afghanistan. Our stories are night and day. I also am friends with many Marine and Navy wives. I don't pretend to know their trials. I have a hard enough time when my husband is gone for 3 months! (and I don't have children, and I live basically like a civilian with mil benefits)

My hubby was on one of the first coastie ships that responded to Katrina - he has a lil hurricane pin. I didn't see him for 4 months (I know, sounds really long lol) but his ship fixed the aides to navigation in the gulf so that relief could come in that direction. Actually his ship was out for 2 months, on its way back in, and then got diverted to go help. So he was only there for about 2 months after or so, if I recall correctly.

I agree with your frustrations too re: politics. I figured you weren't mad at me until pdj posted that and then I was like "well maybe ... I could see that." I'm frustrated that my BIL will go to Afghanistan and the place is so unsettled My sister and her two kids are stationed in Germany and that makes it tougher. We certainly were scared about Iraq, but Afg is another world in comparison.
