Mechanic who took care of my old truck (19 yrs, 247k miles) was the one who sold me on the weight-distributing hitch as a ride improver. He hauled a huge trilple-axle BP box trailer behind an even bigger motorhome all over the southeastern US for his race car hobby. Didn't "need" the leveling gear, he'd rebuilt the motorhome suspension so it didn't drop at all when he hitched up. It was there strictly for ride quality he always said. Well, one Monday morning I took the truck in for some work, and the guys were just getting around to unloading the trailer from the weekend. They open the doors, and there's half-full glasses of wine sitting on the workbench in the trailer, left there when the party ended--in Tennessee. Yes, the counter had a non-slip surface coating, but still, I was amazed. His answer was rubber torsion axles and a load-leveling hitch. Sold me.
