This! My BO gets all of her hay at auctions, she has a big hay trailer (a flatbed) and she gets really good prices. Sometimes we do get bad bales (stemmy, moldy, etc) but we feed those to the fatties. You'd be surprised, most horses will pick around mold and other bad stuff.

Not all of them will, however. Some of them will eat it just fine and get quite sick, and possibly die.

Personally, I'm no fan of Oprah. But if she can use television to get America to read, she has accomplished a feat more daunting than Hannibal moving elephants over the Alps.
