I agree with the "get a new trainer" sentiment. Even if you really like this person, it doesn't seem like they'll be getting you very far in the jumping world. When I first started riding and was training to jump, I had to do months of flatwork in the 2-point position with stirrups and without, and I still didn't really get to go over anything but some tiny X-rails. You need to find a trainer who considers your safety and development as a rider paramount.
